Relevant information for your purchase
Wheel Size
The wheel size must be compatible with your skate setup:
- Hi-Lo setup in Senior Sizes (Sr): Sizes 6.0 to 12.0 (typically), with two 80mm wheels in the back and two 76mm wheels in the front.
- Hi-Lo setup in Junior Sizes (Jr): Sizes 3.0 to 5.5 (typically), with two 72mm wheels in the back and two 68mm wheels in the front.
- Other common configurations: Some skates may have four wheels of the same size, such as four 80mm wheels or four 72mm wheels per skate. These configurations provide a different experience in terms of stability and maneuverability.
The playing surface determines the appropriate hardness of the wheels. The hardness ranges from 72A (the softest) to 85A (the hardest).
- Indoor Wheels (74A - 80A): Perfect for plastic surfaces, wooden floors, and smooth concrete. A softer wheel is ideal for providing grip on these surfaces.
Our recommendation is to use a medium hardness of 76A (B21 and ST).
Player Weight and Wheel Hardness
The player's weight affects the choice of wheel hardness. Here are some recommendations:
- Less than 68 kg: You can choose wheels with a hardness of 72A for better grip.
- More than 68 kg:The choice becomes more flexible. A hardness of 76A is recommended, especially for players competing on plastic surfaces, as it provides an ideal balance between grip and durability.
Our B21 and ST wheels, with a hardness of 76A, are excellent options for indoor surfaces and are well-suited for a wide range of player weights.
Wheel and Bearing Replacement
- Dissembly: Use an Allen wrench to unscrew the axle bolt and remove the wheel from the skate.
- Bearing Removal: Remove the bearings and spacer from each wheel. You may need a specific bearing tool if they are tightly fitted.
- Installing New Wheels: Place the bearings and spacers in the new wheels, ensuring they fit correctly before reinstalling the axle and tightening it.
- Axle Adjustment: The axle should be adjusted so that the wheels spin freely without wobbling.
Maintenance of the wheels
- Regular Inspection: Check the wheels regularly for signs of wear, such as uneven edges or reduced traction.
- Wheel Rotating: Rotating the wheels helps to wear them evenly, extending their lifespan. This involves swapping the wheels from one skate to the other and flipping them, so the most worn parts change position.
- Cleaning: Keep the wheels clean by using a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris.
- Wheel Selection: Use harder wheels for outdoor use and softer wheels for indoor use. The quality of the wheels also affects their durability and performance.
Bearing Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: It's important to clean the bearings regularly to prevent dirt and grease buildup, which can reduce efficiency and increase wear.
- Required Tools: For cleaning, you will need a small brush, lint-free cloths, and a specific cleaning solution for bearings. Avoid using water to prevent rust.
- Lubrication: After cleaning the bearings, it is crucial to re-lubricate them with a light oil specifically designed for bearings.
- Wear Inspection: If the bearings resist spinning or show signs of rust, it may be necessary to replace them.
