Wheel size for my inline skates

The wheel size must match your skate setup:

• Hi-Lo setup in Senior sizes (Sr): sizes 6.0 to 12.0 (usually), with two 80mm wheels at the back and two 76mm wheels at the front.
• Hi-Lo setup in Junior sizes (Jr): sizes 3.0 to 5.5 (usually), with two 72mm wheels at the back and two 68mm wheels at the front.
• Other common setups: some skates use four wheels of the same size, such as four 80mm or four 72mm wheels per skate. These setups give a different feel in terms of stability and manoeuvrability.

Inline hockey playing surfaces

The playing surface determines the right wheel hardness. Hardness ranges from 72A (softest) to 85A (hardest).

• Indoor wheels (74A - 80A): perfect for plastic tiles, wooden floors and smooth concrete. A softer wheel is ideal for grip on these surfaces.
  We recommend a medium hardness of 76A (B21 and ST)

Player weight and wheel hardness

A player’s weight affects the choice of wheel hardness. Here are some recommendations:

• Under 68 kg: you can go for 72A wheels for extra grip.
• Over 68 kg: you have more flexibility. We recommend 76A, especially for players competing on plastic floors, as it gives an ideal balance between grip and durability.

Our B21 and ST wheels, at 76A, are excellent options for indoor surfaces and suit a wide range of player weights.

Changing wheels and bearings

1. Removal: use an Allen key to unscrew the axle bolt and remove the wheel from the skate.
2. Removing the bearings: take the bearings and the spacer out of each wheel. You may need a bearing tool if they are tight.
3. Fitting the new wheels: put the bearings and spacers into the new wheels, making sure they sit correctly before refitting the axle and tightening.
4. Axle adjustment: tighten the axle so the wheels spin freely without wobbling.

Inline hockey wheel maintenance

1. Regular inspection: check your wheels regularly for signs of wear, such as uneven edges or reduced grip.
2. Wheel rotation: rotating your wheels helps them wear evenly and last longer. This means swapping wheels between skates and flipping them, so the most worn parts change position.
3. Cleaning: keep your wheels clean, using a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris.
4. Choosing wheels: use harder wheels outdoors and softer wheels indoors. Wheel quality also affects durability and performance.

Bearing maintenance

1. Regular cleaning: clean your bearings regularly to avoid a build-up of dirt and grease, which can reduce efficiency and increase wear.
2. Tools you need: for cleaning, you will need a small brush, lint-free cloths and a cleaning solution made for bearings. Avoid using water to prevent rust.
3. Lubrication: after cleaning the bearings, it is essential to re-lubricate them with a light oil made for bearings.
4. Checking for wear: if the bearings feel stiff when spinning or show signs of rust, they may need replacing.
